This morning we took the hot air balloon ride. Randy was not sure what he was getting himself into but he really, really enjoyed it. We started out by having coffee and pastries on the motor boat that took us over to the other side of the Nile. There were about 22 of us on the boat and we were divided into 2 balloons. When we got to the take off spot there were about a dozen balloons in th process of being inflated. We got into the basket and lifted off. What views. Kodak moments everywhere. You could see where the lush green vegetation stopped and the harsh desert took over. We flew over houses and saw children still in bed. They do not have roofs over the top floor of their houses because it is too hot and that is where it appears they all sleep. There are smal farms everywhere and several families have a cow and several chickens and a donkey. These people seem poor by our standards but they all seem very happy and waved as we glided overhead. Mohamed, the commander of our balloon, took us right into the palm trees. We actually had to push the fronds aside as we glided through. When we landed we wound up in a farmer's field. Boy was he mad! Apparently we had landed on a new crop of animal feed. We had to lift off again and be dragged to a different field to unload. After appeasing the farmer with a "baksheesh" (tip) we were able to take pictures of he and his family. A little boy wanted Stevie's hat so she gave it to him. He will be the only boy in Luxor with a ball cap from "The Office" in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
